Polymer Clay Pendant

Vanessa Gilkes - Polymer Clay Pendant

by Vanessa Gilkes

Supplies needed:

  • Polymer clay (enough for a 3" square)
  • Liquid polymer clay
  • Yuzen washi (enough for a 3" square)
  • Jewelry wire & beads

Procedure:

Make sure your clay is conditioned and pliable.
Roll out a square of clay. I rolled my clay with my pasta machine on #3 or 1/8th inches thick.
Trace kimono template onto back of Washi paper.
Cut out traced kimono.
Pour a bit of the liquid polymer clay onto the front and back of the washi paper.
Cover the whole kimono front and back with the liquid polymer clay.
Lay your kimono onto your polymer clay that is #3 or 1/8th inches thick. Make sure to press the kimono so there are no gaps between the kimono and the clay.
Cut around the kimono leaving a small border.
For the obi I just cut out a rectangle of clay #2 or 1/16th inches thick.
Put a small line of liquid polymer clay across the back and place it on top of the kimono.
Don’t forget to make holes in the kimono top before baking.
Bake at manufacturer-recommended temperature/time.
Here is a template I made for this kimono necklace. The pin is made from the same template, reduced in size.
